What is in a name – Shefa Brook?

Shefa Brook Ministries was founded by Pastors David and Anne Velu in October, 2012 and is a non-denominational Christian organisation.  David and Anne have been serving the Lord for over 15 years and they started by working under Global Street Mission on the streets of Pudu and Chow Kit in Kuala Lumpur with drug addicts, the homeless, transvestite and sex workers.

They have established and ran an orphanage, ministered to the homeless and the substance abusers in the Gold Coast Australia and ran a feeding program in the Gold Coast, Australia.

Biblical Reference Point : John 10:10b “…. I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly.”

Shefa Brook – Our name states the purpose for the ministry

Shefa (שפע) is a Hebrew word which is translated as God’s divine abundance.  Brook is a small river so put together our vision is for the ministry is to help all involved to flow in God’s divine abundance.

Many people tend to understand the concept of abundance in rather narrow, material terms and think it applies just to material wealth. The term, Shefa, applies to a much broader perspective and a far wider definition of the concept.  It embodies a total experience of God’s abundance and His goodness and graciousness poured out upon us in all aspects of our lives and how to experience life God has for us fully.

In Genesis, God is continually seeing the process of creation and Creation itself as being the embodiment of good. The entire universe is based on the foundation of good and the divine intention is to continue to provide goodness to all realms to support that underlying base.

Shefa is actually, on the broadest level, the flow of goodness that comes to our world from the throne room of God.  The Shefa, on one hand, is sent down from God, but on the other hand is drawn down to our level by need, by circumstance and in response to supplications and thanksgiving to our Heavenly Father. The idea is that if there is a true need for blessing, healing and the manifestation of goodness on our level, in our lives, we have to seek it actively primarily through prayer, praise and worship.  We need to seek God, make sure we are living our lives in a way that renders us deserving of blessing and we must be completely open to receiving it when it arrives.

We can be blessed and enriched in many ways that take on a multitude of forms, some recognizable and some extremely subtle. Abundance can come in many forms; physical or emotional health, prosperity and wealth, spiritual gifts and wisdom, love and support, community and friendship, insight and expanded awareness, spiritual development and inner peace.

Our response to this influx of blessings, richness and benefit needs to be one of genuine recognition of God’s blessings, the appropriate use of what has been bestowed on us and thanksgiving.

Both spiritually and materially, God wants us to be good stewards.

At Shefa Brook Ministries we focus on developing spiritual gifts given of the members of our congregation and also healing and deliverance.

We believe that the Word of God in indeed powerful (Hebrews 4:12) and that Shefa happens by the word, through the Word and because of the Word.

Stay blessed – Pastor David Velu
